Restaurants and Social Media, BFFs?

September 7th, 2010

Lunch Specials, Happy Hours, Weekend Events, Oh My!

Most everyone has a favorite restaurant that they frequent.  For example, if you were a huge fan of the Kooky Canuck (@kookycanuck) in downtown Memphis, you would want to know what they had going on this week.  When is the next “red carpet” event, what are the lunch specials and when you can get the best price on a cold one.  Or if you enjoy the inspiring cuisine at Circa (@circamemphis) downtown, you might want to know what they have going on for Valentine’s Day.  Both of these restaurants implement social media to get the word out.   Although they had a great following before they started social media, they have become a force on facebook and twitter.

Restaurants can use many different types of social media other than Facebook and Twitter.  As we have explained in the previous blog, Yelp, UrbanSpoon and CitySearch are great interactive directories.  YouTube can also be used when you have exciting events at your restaurant or just to show a virtual tour of the experience customers will have when they dine in your establishments.  You can also utilize sites like eventful.com and upcoming.org to promote events you are hosting at your restaurants.

Social Media is a great and cheap tool to employ when promoting and marketing your website and restaurant.
